The Town is always accepting applications on our Advisory and Planning Boards.
The positions would be on our Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Environmental Review Board.
Any interested Town of Chenango resident may obtain an application from the Town Clerks office, or download one from the town’s website. Completed applications, and letter of interest should be submitted to the Town Clerks office.

Zoning Board, Planning Board, Enviormental Review Board Member

More information on the Review Member position below:

The Town of Chenango is seeking candidates that care about their Town and want to participate in guiding its future changes through becoming a Member  and/or Alternate to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals or the Environmental Review Board.

The Member or Alternate would be responsible for attending the regular meetings of the Board to which you have been appointed or as necessary or required by special requests or circumstances.

A successful member of the above Boards would possess the following qualifications:

Resident of the Town of Chenango

At least 18 years of age

Knowledge of or ability to learn  Planning, Zoning or Environmental Review Board functions

Ability to understand and interpret State and Town Laws and regulations

Ability to read and interpret plans

Knowledge of the boundaries of the Town

Familiar with the various types of properties within the Town

Knowledge of the roads, streets and neighborhoods within the Town

Willingness to be appointed for a 5 year term

Ability to speak, express or defend your opinion in public

Possess judicial temperament, patience and tact

Willingness to receive the required training and take oath of office

Assessment Review Board

The Town of Chenango is seeking candidates for an Alternate for the Board of Assessment Review.

The Alternate would be responsible for attending the BAR hearing on the fourth Tuesday in May and hearing cases presented by citizens to have their property’s assessed value lowered; then deliberating and making a judgment as to whether or not to lower the assessed value.

Qualifications of a successful Board of Assessment Review member:

  • Resident of the Town of Chenango
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Knowledge of the boundaries of the Town
  • Familiar with the various types of properties within the Town
  • Knowledge of the roads, streets and neighborhoods within the Town
  • Experience within the Real Estate field
  • Familiarity with local real estate market
  • Willingness to be appointed for a 5 year term
  • Understanding of the assessment process
  • Understanding of property value as it relates to assessment and equalization
  • Availability on the fourth Tuesday in May each year for review
  • Ability to meet post hearing date to deliberate on cases
  • Possess judicial temperament, patience and tact
  • Willingness to receive the required training and take oath of office
